Trying out Mosaic Crochet

It’s time to make a winter blanket that I can use for December. I found this gorgeous Sholac mosaic crochet pattern on Ravelry. I’ve never done mosaic crochet before but it can’t be too hard, its basically just single and double crochets overlapping.

Or so I thought. The stitching is straight forward but it’s the first time I’ve used a chart and I learned I am not great at counting stitches. My poor little trees started to lean and then as I tried to correct it things just got weird.

This is as far as I’ve gotten and I’m quitting. I don’t want to invest the time to finish it knowing it started out weird. I also don’t like the back which has these weird flaps when the colors overlap. I’ve got it in my mind that fingers and toes will get caught in the flap. Plus, the fuzzy acrylic yarn which looked so great and on theme for snow and fir trees was starting give me sensory issues. Even thinking about it now makes my skin crawl. I think this proves I’m an all cotton gal now – no more acrylic or wool.

I still love this pattern. I think if I find a great variegated green cotton someday I’ll try it again and use a lot more stitch markers.
