Affirmations with the ThinkUp App

I’ve been into doing affirmations since high school. I’ve tired different methods — post-its, notebooks, alerts, recordings, etc — and the practice I’ve stuck with the most is the ThinkUp app. It allows you to write (or select from a library) and record the affirmations in your own voice. You can then listen to them all or set up playlists, with music or without, on a loop or for a set period of time. I fell in love with ThinkUp as it was very easy for me to add new affirmations — usually a quote or idea from one of the many books I’ve read — and categorize them.

At first, listening to my own voice felt a bit weird. It took me a few sessions to get over that, “Is this how I really sound?!” reaction, but I kept with it and now I LOVE the sound of my voice! I intend to listen to an hour of affirmations a day. I’ll listen while taking a solo walk outside, while working at the computer, or even while I am writing. I’ve tried falling asleep but haven’t found a comfortable set of earphones for sleeping.

If you are new to affirmations or don’t know what to write yourself, they have a vast library to get you started. Or do like I do, just start documenting your favorite inspiring quotes.

The ThinkUp app is free with a limited number of affirmations and music selection. I purchased the Premium options so I wouldn’t be limited in anyway. (One of my affirmations is of course, “I am unlimited!”) My favorite music is “In the Moment of Inspiration” which is one of the Premium options.

While I completely recommend the ThinkUp app, I do wish it had more stats for us nerdy types. For instance, how many total affirmations do I have, or how many per hashtag, how many times have I listed to a specific affirmation or in total for a specific duration. Or even being able to search for an affirmation — maybe not features casual users care about, but it wouldn’t help me better keep an eye on my practice, so I don’t have to do it manually.

All in all, give it a try. You might just fall in love with your own voice while training your brain with affirmations.
